Autodesk BIM 360 Design, a key component of the Autodesk Construction Cloud, continues to evolve by introducing new features and services that enhance collaboration and data management. Among these updates is the launch of a Europe-based data center, which serves as a primary storage location for project data, offering greater flexibility and compliance for users in the region. Additionally, BIM 360 Design now integrates with Collaboration for Plant 3D, expanding its capabilities to support plant design workflows.
Used across more than 150 countries and supporting approximately 40,000 projects, BIM 360 Design enables real-time collaboration among architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals. Whether working within their own company or across multiple organizations and disciplines, teams can access and manage project data from anywhere, at any time.
The introduction of the European data center reflects the growing global demand for localized data storage and enhanced performance. It also supports the increasing need for flexibility, especially in today’s dynamic work environments. As remote work becomes more common, having reliable cloud-based tools like BIM 360 Design ensures that teams can stay connected and productive regardless of location.
Nicolas Mangon, Vice President of AEC Business Strategy and Marketing at Autodesk, highlighted the rapid growth in BIM 360 Design usage over the past two years. “This growth underscores the rising complexity of projects and the teams involved,†he said. “In these challenging times, maintaining project continuity and team flexibility is more important than ever.â€
Indeed, the number of BIM 360 Design subscribers in Europe nearly doubled during the first quarter of fiscal year 2020. Globally, the rate of new project creation surged by about 350% after many teams transitioned to remote work in mid-February. As part of Autodesk’s response to the pandemic, BIM 360 Design for Revit was made available for free until May 31, 2020 through the Extended Access Program.
“Cloud collaboration has become central to our design process,†said Alex Mortiboys, Head of BIM at Office of Metropolitan Architecture (OMA). “With the availability of a European data center, we can confidently offer BIM 360 Design to our clients in Europe and beyond, improving efficiency and transparency across all our projects.â€
BIM 360 Design now also connects with AutoCAD Plant 3D, enabling plant designers and engineers to better manage file access, secure sharing, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. This integration strengthens the platform by providing a centralized hub for all work-in-progress data, making it easier for teams to collaborate without requiring complex IT infrastructure.
Dave Reed, Technology Manager at Black & Veatch, emphasized the value of this integration. “With AutoCAD Plant 3D, BIM 360 offers a unified space for all project data, streamlining access for our global teams and enhancing both internal and external communication,†he said. “Our partnership with Autodesk has been essential to our digital transformation journey.â€
