In this series, I’ll take a closer look at the history of each Turret Wagon, starting with number 6-7-1.
Organized at 1244 N. Orleans on December 14, 1961
(G-164) 1961 Willy’s Jeep. The FD repair shops built the body and installed a high-pressure monitor capable of flowing 2,000 gallons per minute.
This unit was one of the first in the city to be equipped with such advanced firefighting equipment.
Disbanded on February 25, 1977

Organized on June 20, 1978 @ 55 W. Illinois St
(G-374) 1975 Chevy C20. In 1978, the CFD Shops fabricated and installed the body along with twin Eastman high-pressure monitors capable of flowing 4,000 gallons per minute.
This upgrade marked a significant step forward in the city’s ability to handle large-scale fires.

(G-366) 1975 Mack MB607T. In 1976, the CFD Shops fabricated and installed the body with twin stang hydraulic high-pressure deluge monitors capable of flowing 20,000 gallons per minute.
This model represented a major leap in fire suppression technology, allowing for rapid response to even the most intense fires.
