May 22nd, 2017 – The Chicago Fire Department’s 23rd Battalion responded to a Still Alarm dispatched to 88th and Eberhart regarding a reported structure fire. Engine Company 82 and Truck Company 42 were the first to arrive on scene at 501 East 88th Street, where they found a two-story wooden frame building measuring 25 by 50 feet fully engulfed. Heavy flames were spreading rapidly through the second floor and the cockloft of this balloon-framed house. Firefighters quickly deployed three handlines and positioned two main ladders to access the roof. For approximately 1.5 hours, multiple units worked diligently to extinguish the blaze before clearing the scene. Unfortunately, the family living there was displaced due to the extent of the damage. Units operating on scene included Engine 82, Engine 122, Truck 42, Tower Ladder 34, Battalion 23, Squad 5, Rescue Engine 27, RIT Team, Battalion 19, Air Supply 37, Air Supply 60, and additional support from Engine 4, Engine 6, Engine 5, and OFI resources.
