Yuchai’s patent won the “Tenth China Patent Excellence Award”

The "Tenth China Patent Award," organized by the State Intellectual Property Office, has recently concluded its evaluation process. Among the honored inventions was the "Four-Valve Diesel Engine Cylinder Head Unloading Groove" patent from Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd., which was awarded the prestigious "Tenth China Patent Excellence Award." This recognition highlights the company's outstanding contributions to technological innovation and intellectual property development. The patent was developed by researchers at Yuchai Engineering Research Institute, Zhong Hongwen and Wei Wenwen. It addresses a critical issue in engine design—the cracking of cylinder heads—marking a significant breakthrough in Yuchai’s research on four-valve cylinder head technology. The innovation has brought Yuchai’s technical expertise in this field to an international standard. The patented technology has been successfully integrated into mass-produced models such as the 6L, 4G, 4E, 6J, and 6A engines, generating cumulative economic benefits of over RMB 3.65 billion for the company. In addition to improving performance, the four-valve technology plays a key role in optimizing the combustion process, reducing emissions of particulates, CO, and NOx, while also enhancing energy efficiency. This advancement not only improves engine performance but also supports environmental protection by lowering pollution levels. By solving practical challenges in the application of four-valve technology, the patent has laid a solid foundation for broader adoption of this technology across China, contributing to sustainable development and resource conservation. The China Patent Excellence Award is the highest government-sponsored recognition for inventors and innovators in China, and it is endorsed by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Winning this award signifies that Yuchai’s patented technology has significantly enhanced its technical value and innovation capabilities. A total of 144 patents were awarded in the tenth edition, with Guangxi securing two of them. This achievement underscores the growing strength of intellectual property development in the region. Over the past three years, Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd. has made substantial progress in building its independent innovation system. The company has placed strong emphasis on patent management and R&D efforts. In 2006, it was designated as one of the national intellectual property pilot units by the State Intellectual Property Office. For two consecutive years, the number of patent applications submitted by Yuchai ranked first in Guangxi. In January 2008, the Yuchai Engineering Research Institute was honored with the title of "National Patent System Advanced Collective" by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the State Intellectual Property Office. To date, Yuchai has filed a total of 322 patent applications, of which 166 have been granted. These innovations have delivered considerable social and economic benefits, reinforcing the company’s position as a leader in technological advancement and industrial development.
