This is from Larry Shapiro: A serious fire broke out in a three-story, brick residential building located on the 5000 block of 30th Street in Cicero. The structure also had an attic that was used as living space. Around 1:30 AM, firefighters arrived to find heavy flames coming from the rear of the second floor, with fire extending up to the third floor and into the attic area. Initial reports indicated that all but one resident had been accounted for, though it wasn't clear if the missing person was still inside. After an initial interior attack, crews were forced to pull out of the building as fire began venting through the roof. A defensive operation was then launched, including the use of a master stream from Cicero Truck 1. By around 2:00 AM, the alarm was upgraded to a Box Alarm to bring in additional units. The primary and secondary searches were completed on the first three floors, but access to the attic was delayed until the main fire was under control. It was during this time that a victim was discovered in the attic space. The incident highlights the dangers faced by firefighters and the importance of thorough search operations in multi-level structures. Flames are visible in the attic space and through the roof.
