The Berwyn Fire Department responded to a fire in an alley on the 7000 block of 34th Street this evening. The incident involved a boat that was under construction and fully engulfed when crews arrived. Josh Boyajian, a local resident, shared his firsthand account and photos with us. "When I stepped outside, I could see a massive fire visible from my house," said Boyajian. "Berwyn fire companies arrived to find a boat on fire, completely involved. They used two lines to tackle the blaze. North Riverside Fire Department provided auto-aid." The boat was located on a mobile trailer in the backyard of a home. According to Boyajian, the fire had already spread significantly before firefighters could begin applying water. He captured several images showing the intensity of the flames and the efforts of the responding units. One photo shows a large header visible from the street, indicating the severity of the fire. Another image highlights the boat's condition as it burned on the trailer. Firefighters quickly worked to bring the fire under control, using both engine and ladder company resources. A line from Berwyn Engine 903 was positioned on the street in front of the house, while Berwyn Quint 901 also arrived with a hose line. The scene was chaotic but well-managed, with crews working efficiently to prevent the fire from spreading further. These images offer a rare glimpse into the situation as it unfolded, showcasing the dedication of first responders and the challenges they face during such incidents.
