The Northwest Herald recently published an article highlighting some significant changes within the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District. This organization has undergone a major overhaul in its administrative structure, which includes the recruitment of several key personnel.
One of the most notable appointments is that of Peter Van Dorpe, a seasoned Chicago firefighter with 34 years of experience. Van Dorpe, currently in charge of the training division for the Chicago Fire Department, is set to join the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills team starting October 1st. He will be taking on the role of assistant chief, earning an annual salary of $111,750. According to official fire district documents, a total of 20 candidates applied for this position, with only four being shortlisted for interviews. Van Dorpe's duties will encompass strategic planning, budget management, data analysis, policy formulation, and emergency preparedness coordination, among other critical responsibilities. Fire Chief Patrick Mullen expressed high hopes for Van Dorpe, praising his extensive expertise in firefighting operations, training, and financial oversight.
In addition to Van Dorpe, the district has also welcomed Cristiane Randall as the newly appointed management services director. Randall began her role on August 26th with an annual salary of $84,818. Her responsibilities span a wide range of areas including human resources, employee benefits management, risk assessment, workers' compensation handling, data administration, occupational health supervision, payroll processing, and labor relations. Randall brings valuable experience from her previous position at the Hanover Park village human resources department, along with technical skills in network management, programming, and web design. Chief Mullen is optimistic about her contributions and those of Van Dorpe, emphasizing their importance in completing the administrative restructuring process.
This reorganization follows the appointment of Mullen as the permanent successor to former Fire Chief Kevin Rynders, who stepped down earlier this year. John Gaughan, the previous assistant chief of administration, did not have his contract renewed after April, leading to the current vacancy being filled by Randall. It’s worth noting that the assistant chief position had been unoccupied since mid-last year when Tim Littlefield moved into the administrative captain role.
As part of these changes, the fire district aims to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in its operations, ensuring it remains well-prepared for future challenges. The collective efforts of these new hires are expected to bring fresh perspectives and strengthen the organizational framework significantly.
