The Glencoe Fire Department (Public Safety Department) recently welcomed a new unit for Squad 30, marking a significant upgrade from its previous equipment. The old 1993 Pierce Lance, which had served the department for over two decades, has been replaced by a newer model: a 2010 Pierce Saber. This new vehicle features a 20-inch raised roof and a more compact design compared to its predecessor. It also comes with a 10-inch raised cab, making it slightly smaller than the previous version. One of the most notable changes is that the new Squad 30 no longer includes a cascade system, and it has reduced overall compartment space. However, it’s roughly the same size as Engine 30, a 1996 Pierce Saber, which helps maintain consistency in the fleet. Despite its smaller size, the new unit is well-equipped for rescue operations. It features deep rescue-style compartments and a pair of pre-piped extrication tools located in the front bumper. Additional equipment includes a hydraulic ladder rack, air bags, spare air bottles, a 1,500 GPM pump, 500 gallons of water, electric cord reels, cribbing, a portable generator for hydraulic tools, a variety of hand tools, and several extinguishers. Once the radios are properly installed, the unit will be officially put into service. Until then, it remains on display at the station, offering a glimpse into the department's modernization efforts. Several photos have been taken to showcase the new Squad 30. One image highlights the front bumper, where the two extrication tools are clearly visible. Another shot captures the rear driver’s side compartment, revealing the organized layout and storage solutions. A third photo shows the officer’s side of the truck, giving a full view of the interior setup. The rear of the vehicle also features deep compartments, an NFPA chevron, and an operational hydraulic ladder rack. These elements make the new Squad 30 both functional and visually distinct from the older models. Overall, this new unit represents a step forward in technology and efficiency for the Glencoe Fire Department, ensuring they remain well-prepared for any emergency situation.
