The Glencoe Fire Department (Public Safety Department) has recently received a new unit for Squad 30, marking an important update to their fleet. This new apparatus replaces the old 1993 Pierce Lance and features a more compact design compared to its predecessor. The new Squad 30 is equipped with a 20-inch raised roof and a Saber cab with a 10-inch raised roof, making it significantly smaller in size.
One of the key differences from the previous model is the removal of the cascade system and a reduction in overall compartment space. However, the new unit is roughly the same size as Engine 30, a 1996 Pierce Saber, ensuring that it remains functional and efficient for the department's needs.
Squad 30 is designed with deep rescue-style compartments and includes a pair of extrication tools mounted in the front bumper. Additional equipment includes a hydraulic ladder rack, air bags, spare air bottles, a 1,500 GPM pump, 500 gallons of water, electric cord reels, cribbing, a portable generator for the hydraulic tools, a variety of hand tools, and several extinguishers.
The unit is currently awaiting radio installation before it can be officially put into service. Once completed, it will be ready to assist the community in emergency situations.
Several photos have been taken to showcase the new vehicle. One image highlights the front bumper compartment, which houses two pre-piped extrication tools. Another photo shows the rear driver’s side, revealing the well-organized storage and equipment layout. A close-up of the officer’s side provides a detailed view of the interior, while another shot captures the rear of the truck, displaying the deep compartments, NFPA chevron, and the operational hydraulic ladder rack. These images give a clear picture of the new Squad 30 and its capabilities.
