The new Pierce tower ladder for Tower 15 in Lincolnwood is currently being prepared for service, with an expected activation date of April 1. As previously noted, the Lincolnwood Fire Department is facing significant apparatus storage challenges. The station is currently overcrowded, with one of the three ambulances parked outside and Engine 15R temporarily stored at the public works facility. Meanwhile, the new Tower 15 and the existing Truck 15 are occupying the apparatus bays. It remains unclear what will happen to the 1989 Pierce Arrow 105' rear mount. Larry Shapiro visited Lincolnwood on Saturday and captured several photos of the new tower ladder. The unit, a 2011 Pierce Arrow XT 100' tower ladder, is equipped with a 2,000-GPM pump and a 300-gallon water tank, along with an unknown capacity foam tank. This truck carries Pierce job number 23700. It’s clear that this is a high-performance unit designed for large-scale fire operations. Truck 15, which has served the department for many years, is believed to have responded to its final emergency call on February 14th at a 2-11 alarm in Lincolnwood. A photo from that day shows the truck in action, highlighting its long and dedicated service history. With the arrival of the new Tower 15, it seems the department is moving forward with modernization while managing the logistical challenges of replacing aging equipment. The future of the old Truck 15 is yet to be determined, but its legacy will not be forgotten.
