The new Pierce tower ladder for Tower 15 in Lincolnwood is being prepared for service, with a target date of April 1. As previously noted, the Lincolnwood firehouse is currently experiencing a shortage of apparatus space. The station is packed with equipment, and one of the three ambulances has been moved outside. Engine 15R is temporarily stored at the public works facility, while both the new Tower 15 and the existing Truck 15 are taking up space in the apparatus bays. It remains unclear what will happen to the 1989 Pierce Arrow 105' rear mount.
Larry Shapiro visited Lincolnwood on Saturday and captured some photos of the new tower ladder. The unit is a 2011 Pierce Arrow XT 100' tower ladder equipped with a 2,000-GPM pump and a 300-gallon water tank. It also features an unknown-capacity foam system. This truck carries Pierce job number 23700.
Truck 15, which was likely the previous tower ladder, is believed to have responded to its final call on February 14th in Lincolnwood. A photo from that day shows the truck at a 2-11 alarm fire on St. Louis. The unit has since been retired, making way for the new Tower 15 to take its place. With the arrival of the new apparatus, the department is working to reorganize its fleet and ensure all units are properly maintained and ready for service.
