HJ3 Composite Technologies Shines at the 2013 Cleantech Open Accelerator Here are the regional winners in each category: James Butler, CEO of HJ3, expressed deep appreciation for the mentorship provided by the Cleantech Open, which helped refine the company’s business strategy and messaging. He emphasized the importance of finding creative solutions that tackle complex challenges while optimizing resources. HJ3 delivers advanced composite materials that strengthen aging infrastructure, reduce landfill waste, lower energy use, and cut costs compared to traditional concrete and steel repairs. With over 10,000 global applications, HJ3 is addressing the $6 trillion infrastructure repair challenge with a $4 trillion funding gap. Their patented systems offer customers a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative. "We’re incredibly grateful to the volunteers, coaches, and leaders behind this incredible organization," Butler said. "Being named both the Chemicals and Advanced Materials winner and the People’s Choice winner among such a strong group of finalists is a huge honor." The 2013 Cleantech Open Accelerator started with over 300 companies nationwide, competing across eight regions since April. In October, 22 regional semi-finalists were selected, including HJ3 and Grannus, LLC from Tucson, AZ. Both were celebrated at the annual Global Forum in Silicon Valley. Grannus won the Sustainability award in the Rocky Mountain Regional Finals and placed second in the National Sustainability competition. Their innovative nitrogen fertilizer technology offers a 30% cost advantage and a 40% construction savings, along with a three-fold sustainability benefit.
