From the MABAS Illinois Facebook page: We are deeply saddened to share the following update: Firefighter/Paramedic Paul Miller’s condition remains unchanged—he is still on life support—and medical professionals have determined that recovery is no longer possible. In accordance with Paul’s wishes, his family has made the heartbreaking but courageous decision to withdraw life support. In keeping with Paul’s selfless nature and the values he lived by, several of his organs will be donated in an effort to give others a second chance at life. His spirit will live on through those who receive his gifts. The donation process is expected to take between 36 to 72 hours, depending on the coordination with transplant centers. Today, Tuesday, April 23rd, at 4:00 PM, there will be a Flag Ceremony held at the main hospital flagpole of Advocate Condell Medical Center, located at 801 S. Milwaukee Ave in Libertyville. A “Gift of Hope†flag will be raised in honor of Paul’s generous gift of life. The ceremony, led by Chaplain David Haley from the Des Plaines Fire Department, will be open to all emergency responders and members of the public who wish to attend. It's important to note that the organ donation process can be unpredictable, as it involves matching with recipients, receiving notifications, and preparing for transplants. These steps may take more than 24 hours from now (1:00 PM on Tuesday). We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
