Last night, Deerfield Fire responded to a serious incident where a vehicle had plunged into a pond on the 500 block of Lake-Cook Road. The first arriving police officer, showing quick thinking and bravery, managed to climb onto the car's roof, break a window, and help the driver escape. During the process, the officer suffered minor hand cuts while freeing the driver.
At the scene, there was some uncertainty about whether there were other people in the car. Based on the driver’s limited information, emergency crews requested assistance from nearby fire departments. Highland Park, Northbrook, Lake Forest, and Lincolnshire fire units sent divers to check the submerged vehicle thoroughly. After confirming that no additional occupants were inside, the divers secured the car for towing.
