This is from Martin Nowak: Car vs. Car About 3 p.m. today, on September 5th, 2012, I heard the sound of emergency vehicles and decided to check it out. As I approached the scene, I saw a car had hit a street pole and then crashed into another vehicle. The power lines that were attached to the pole were lying on the ground. The driver fled before the fire department arrived. There was no immediate word on whether the driver was injured, but the airbag had deployed, indicating a significant impact. I took some photos right before Truck 36 left the scene and Ambulance 3 remained behind. The police hadn’t shown up yet. The accident happened at the intersection of Kedzie Avenue and Thomas Street. I could see that the driver had been lucky not to be seriously hurt, but it's clear the crash was severe. The CFD and ambulance were on the way, and I imagine the area will be blocked off for a while. It’s always unsettling to witness these kinds of incidents, especially in a busy part of the city like Kedzie and Thomas.
