I. Introduction

The insulating oil dielectric strength tester, also known as an oil breakdown voltage tester or oil BDV tester, is a critical tool used in electrical testing to determine the dielectric strength of transformer oil. This device measures the voltage at which a spark occurs between two electrodes immersed in the oil, separated by a specific gap. A low BDV value typically indicates the presence of moisture or conductive contaminants in the oil, which can compromise the insulation properties of the transformer.

In this kit, the oil is placed in a pot where a pair of electrodes are fixed with a gap of 2.5 mm (some models use 4 mm). This setup ensures accurate and consistent measurements according to international standards such as IEC 156.
