Can guarantee environmental protection and can guarantee the profit Yangzijiang Chemical Industry Park adheres to the industrial chain option 18 of the world's top 500 chemical companies are pleased to enter
A few years ago, Jiangsu Yangzijiang National Chemical Industry Park was in a phase of indiscriminate investment, with many projects lacking clear direction. However, the park has since transformed its strategy by focusing on building a strong industrial chain, which has allowed it to attract high-quality investments and gain the confidence of global investors. To date, the park has successfully introduced 26 production-oriented projects, drawing in $1.8 billion in foreign investment, with 18 of the world’s top 500 chemical companies now operating within its boundaries.
Located as a supporting park within the Zhangjiagang Free Trade Zone, the park initially struggled to attract major international firms due to a lack of clear industrial linkages. In the past, even companies with promising plans faced hesitation because of unstable supply chains. For example, a U.S. company once considered setting up a plant to produce methyl chloride and chloroform using hydrogen, chlorine, and hydrogen chloride as raw materials. However, without a reliable supply chain, the company remained cautious.
This experience prompted the park’s decision-makers to rethink their approach. They realized that sustainable growth required building around a solid industrial chain. Through strategic efforts, the park brought in a major project from Suzhou Fine Chemical Co., Ltd., investing 10 billion yuan to establish a facility producing 100,000 tons of caustic soda and 1 million tons of sulfuric acid annually. This laid the foundation for a chlorine-based chemical industrial chain.
As a result, the original U.S. company not only joined the park but also brought its downstream silicone projects along. Over time, two additional secondary industrial chains were formed: one centered on Junma Chemical Fiber Group’s caprolactam project and another around Mitsui Chemical’s PTA project. These developments attracted multinational giants such as DuPont, Dow Corning, and Japanese catalyst companies, who began “building the chain†by joining the ecosystem.
Today, the park has developed a comprehensive industrial network based on chlorine gas, palm oil, stearic acid, and liquid ammonia, creating a self-sustaining cycle that benefits both the environment and the economy. For instance, Teco Brown, a Malaysian company invested in by the park, supplies stearic acid to an Italian firm, which then produces calcium stearate, a key ingredient used by Dow Chemical. Meanwhile, Suzhou Fine Chemical Co., Ltd. recovers 98% of the heat from its sulfur-burning acid system, using the excess to power generators and feed into the grid, generating additional revenue.
By prioritizing industrial integration and sustainability, Yangzijiang National Chemical Industry Park has become a model for smart, eco-friendly development in the chemical sector.
