Saturday, April 23, 2011 – 5:30 PM: Firefighters in Berwyn are currently dealing with a 2-11 alarm fire at the intersection of 28th and Ridgeland, where a three-story apartment building is engulfed in flames. The fire has been burning for approximately an hour and has now spread to the roof. As a result, all companies have been ordered to pull back from the structure, shifting the operation to a defensive position. Multiple ladder pipes are actively being used, and heavy fire is clearly visible from the exterior. Josh Boyajian is on the scene and has captured several powerful images of the ongoing incident. The photos show firefighters exiting the roof after being pulled out of the building, as well as crews preparing to deploy the North Riverside tower. One image highlights the intense fire breaking through a collapsed section of the roof, while another shows the Stickney aerial unit in action, using an elevated master stream to combat the blaze on the third floor. Additional photos reveal two elevated master streams working simultaneously, with multiple lines deployed along the side of the building. A firefighter is seen managing the master stream from the turntable, while thick smoke and flames continue to pour from both the roof and upper floors. Another shot captures Berwyn Engine 904 actively engaged in the firefighting effort. These images provide a vivid look at the intensity of the fire and the heroic efforts of the responding firefighters. The situation remains critical, and residents in the area are advised to stay alert and follow local updates.
