(Nasdaq: ADSK) and ZWCAD Software Co., Ltd., ZWCAD Design Co., Ltd., HK ZWCAD Software Ltd., and GLOBAL FORCE DIRECT, LLC (doing business as ZWCADUSA) (collectively “ZWSoftâ€) have reached a settlement in ongoing legal disputes in The Hague and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. AutoCAD, one of Autodesk’s most iconic and widely used design software tools globally, has been at the center of this case. In February 2014, Autodesk filed a lawsuit in The Hague, Netherlands (Case No. C/09/460412 / KG ZA 14-178), and in March 2014, it also filed a similar suit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California (Case No. 14-cv-1409-EJD). The company alleged that ZWSoft had improperly used AutoCAD's intellectual property to develop its ZWCAD+ software, which was seen as a direct competitor. Initially, ZWSoft denied these claims. However, internal investigations later revealed that an employee had indeed misused Autodesk’s proprietary code during the development of ZWCAD+. This discovery led to a significant shift in the company’s stance. As a result, ZWSoft’s CEO, Truman Du, publicly admitted the mistake and committed to ceasing all sales, licensing, or distribution of ZWCAD+ across all markets immediately. Both parties have now signed a binding settlement agreement, with an undisclosed financial compensation provided to Autodesk as part of the resolution.
