Autodesk showcased three innovative tools—Dynamo Studio, Insight 360, and Project Expo Tech Preview—at AIA 2016. As we kicked off our conversation in advance of the event, we explored how the role of architects is evolving, and how Autodesk is committed to supporting that journey. In our previous post, we highlighted how most of our tools are now seamlessly connected to Revit, making your workflow faster, smarter, and more efficient. We introduced the concept of extended BIM, aiming to simplify your life and your team's work.
Continuing the conversation, let’s dive into how Autodesk is helping you boost productivity while delivering exceptional results at AIA 2016.
**Save Time, Save Money: Dynamo and Computational Design**
Computational design is reshaping the way architects think and create. It’s all about using algorithms and logic to generate complex geometries and models. With Dynamo, a powerful visual programming environment, designers can automate tasks, explore parametric designs, and extend their workflows beyond traditional BIM.
Dynamo for Revit integrates directly with Revit, allowing users to build custom logic and workflows. Meanwhile, Dynamo Studio offers a standalone platform for more advanced scripting and conceptual design exploration. This flexibility makes it easier to handle dynamic models, streamline documentation, and support fabrication, coordination, and analysis.
Take NBBJ, for example. They used Dynamo to extract data from legacy DWG files and convert them into intelligent Revit elements. This process saved them over 1,650 hours on a project involving 75 buildings. As Sean Burke from NBBJ put it, “It was the single most impactful workflow on the project.†And this isn’t just an isolated case—thousands of firms worldwide are leveraging Dynamo to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Join us at booth 3531 to see Dynamo in action and discover how it can transform your workflow.
**Save the World: Design for Optimal Building Performance with Insight 360**
At Greenbuild 2015, Autodesk introduced Insight 360—a tool designed to help architects optimize building performance through real-time energy and environmental analysis. Now, it’s one of the highlights of our AIA 2016 exhibit.
Insight 360 provides access to powerful analysis engines, intuitive visualization, and industry benchmarks like Architecture 2030 and ASHRAE 90.1. By integrating directly with Revit, it allows architects to make informed decisions early in the design process, leading to better outcomes throughout the building lifecycle.
Mills Group, a small firm based in West Virginia, has been using Insight 360 to design sustainable buildings. Ryan Hess, Director of Sustainable Design, shared how the tool replaced multiple energy modeling software with a single, user-friendly platform. “It’s fast, accurate, and gives us the insights we need to justify design choices,†he said.
Visit our booth to learn more about how Insight 360 can help you create smarter, greener buildings.
**Blow Your Clients’ Minds: Project Expo Tech Preview**
Visualizing design concepts is no longer just about static images—it’s about immersive, real-time experiences. That’s where Project Expo comes in. This tech preview leverages the Autodesk Stingray game engine to bring Revit models to life in an interactive, engaging way.
Project Expo allows clients to walk through a design in real time, making it easier to understand spatial relationships and make informed decisions. It also integrates with 3ds Max and the cloud, offering a seamless workflow from design to presentation.
Heather Johnston of PLACE architect described the challenge of translating her vision into compelling visuals. “It’s always been a puzzle,†she said. “But with Project Expo, we’re getting closer than ever.â€
Nelson Weeks of Lord, Aeck & Sargent added, “How do you truly make them feel the space? Project Expo helps us do that.â€
Project Expo is set to change the way we present and collaborate. Join us at booth 3531 on May 19 at 11 am for a live demo.
**Evolving Together**
As you visit AIA 2016 in Philadelphia, remember that Autodesk is here to support you. The architectural landscape is changing, and we're evolving alongside you. Our goal is to ensure that our tools, teams, and services meet the needs of your future.
On May 11, we launched “The Revit Station†— a new platform where users can submit ideas, vote on features, and track development. It’s a direct line to your voice and a step toward a more collaborative future.
Stop by our booth and share your thoughts. Tell us what works, what doesn’t, and how we can continue to improve. Your feedback matters, and we’re listening.
**Autodesk Class/Theater Schedules, Demos, and Experts**
