The Mundelein Fire Department in Division 4 has recently added a brand-new 2010 Sutphen 1500/500 75-foot mid-mount quint to their fleet, which is now stationed at Station 2. This modern apparatus is equipped with a full set of Hurst tools mounted on the front bumper, along with two tool reels, a PTO generator, and is fully ALS (Advanced Life Support) equipped. It’s a powerful and versatile unit that’s ready for any emergency response.

In addition to the new apparatus, the department recently completed a full restoration of their historic 1925 Stoughton pumper. According to Mark Gaunky, this vehicle was saved from being scrapped thanks to the efforts of retired Lieutenant Jim Carew. The restoration was a complete frame-up rebuild, with about 75% of the original parts still in use. The engine features a 350 GPM pump and carries 150 gallons of water. This pumper was originally donated to the village by Cardinal George Mundelein as a gesture of gratitude after the town changed its name to the Village of Mundelein. The original cost was $7,500, and the restoration project came with a price tag of $65,000. Despite its age, the unit served the department for over two decades before being taken out of service.
