If the LNG bus in 2012 is only a budding figure, in 2013 the model ushered in a real explosion. According to statistics, in January alone, the growth of LNG models reached 151.3%. Among them, the increase in LNG buses is even more pronounced. Currently, bus companies across the country have purchased LNG buses in large quantities.

Economic and environmental protection

Why are LNG buses so popular? Environmental protection and economic superiority are its main selling points.

It is understood that, compared with traditional fuels, LNG has the advantages of high octane number, good anti-knocking performance, low engine loss, low fuel cost, and good environmental performance. Compared with traditional diesel vehicles, the content of nitrogen dioxide and carbon dioxide in the tail gas of LNG vehicles is reduced by 98% and 30%, which is a veritable clean energy vehicle. In addition, the burning point of LNG is 650°C, the ignition point is relatively high, the density after gasification is very low, and the safety performance is good.

“At present, haze has affected many cities across the country, and the government has also regarded air pollution control as the top priority. As the main force of urban transport, buses have become the most important areas for government transformation. Energy-saving and environmentally friendly LNG models are in line with bus companies. The demand, therefore, its sales have increased significantly." Da Jinlong Beijing regional manager said.

LNG buses not only reduce pollution emissions from large environments, but also have some improvement in the small environment where drivers can drive.

“When I opened a diesel bus, I was not only noisy, but I smelled a strong smell of gasoline all day long. Now I’ve driven LNG buses, the working environment has improved a lot, and I’ve had a much better driving experience.” Tianjin Bus Group 634 driver Liu said.

There are not many drivers who share the same feelings with Master Liu. Today, they also enjoy the cleanliness and convenience of LNG buses. “Compared with fuel vehicles, LNG buses have reduced their combined emissions by 40%, and they do not contain carcinogens such as lead and benzene, which are far more environmentally friendly than fuel vehicles.” Beijing bus driver Yan Master said that the driving environment of LNG vehicles is cleaner. The air in the car has improved significantly compared to diesel cars.

If it is said that the use of environmentally-friendly models is the duty of public transport companies, the outstanding economy is the company's appeal.

According to relevant person in charge of Suzhou Jinlong Brand Management Department, LNG passenger vehicles can not only significantly reduce exhaust emissions, but also have outstanding economic performance. Compared with traditional diesel vehicles, LNG buses can save 20% to 30% in fuel costs. "Although LNG buses cost 60,000 to 80,000 yuan more than traditional diesel vehicles, they can basically recover the cost of a car after operating for one year," said the person in charge.

“The rise in oil prices is the root cause of our purchase of LNG passenger cars. At present, Guiyang has updated 1,500 buses and can save fuel costs of 30 million yuan annually.” said the person in charge of the Guiyang Public Transport Group.

Ending subsidies to help develop LNG models

In the public transportation field, besides LNG passenger cars, favoring new energy vehicles, they are gradually catching up with the LNG passenger cars. However, with the end of the new round of subsidy policies, new energy passenger cars have entered a gap period, which also indirectly boosted the development of LNG models.

“Now the government has suspended subsidies for hybrid vehicles, so many users who are interested in buying are waiting to see, and some users are turning to buy LNG vehicles. After all, these two models are comparable in economic efficiency, and the price of LNG vehicles. Relatively speaking, it is relatively cheap,” said the person in charge of Greater Beijing’s Beijing area.

“Today, the issue of follow-up subsidies for hybrid vehicles has not yet been implemented, so users will consider LNG models when they consider operating costs.” Su Jin, Beijing area official told reporters that the general price of hybrid vehicles is between 800,000 and 1 million yuan. After the subsidy of RMB 420,000, the hybrid model is still more expensive than the LNG model. If there is no subsidy, the price difference between the two models is about 1 times. From the price point of view, bus companies will be more inclined to purchase LNG vehicles.

According to the relevant person in charge of Zhongtong Bus, in addition to the government's subsidy for new energy vehicles, the use of hybrid vehicles is closer to traditional diesel vehicles, and LNG vehicles are more environmentally friendly. At present, under the general environment of promoting energy conservation and environmental protection, bus companies still prefer LNG buses.

“In June, there was no order for a hybrid vehicle, and a subsidy of more than 400,000 yuan was lost. It is impossible for public transport companies to purchase new energy buses.” A person in charge of a passenger car said that in the Tianjin area, hybrid vehicles are subsidized. Next, the share of these two models in the public transportation field is roughly divided into five to five. However, with the end of subsidies, bus companies will be more willing to purchase LNG buses.

Around the purchase boom

The pursuit of LNG passenger cars is also reflected in the volume of purchases in various regions. At present, LNG buses are being promoted in most regions of the country.

The capital, Beijing, is one of them. According to Zheng Hongpu, Director of the Public Transport Management Department of the Transportation Authority of the Beijing Municipal Transport Commission, in order to promote energy conservation and emission reduction for public transport, Beijing will promote the early renewal of public transport vehicles and strive to add another 3,000 LNG buses by the end of 2013.

Recently, Futian signed a sales contract with Beijing Bafangda Passenger Transport Co., Ltd. for a total of 3012 Futian Ouhui LNG buses. The batch of LNG buses will be used in the Beijing public transportation system. “In the future, Beijing will also optimize the energy structure of vehicles, focusing on natural gas vehicles, supplemented by diesel vehicles and hybrid vehicles, and appropriately develop dual-source trolley buses and pure electric vehicles. It is expected that Beijing will increase nearly 10,000 LNG vehicles. "Zheng Hongpu said.

Guangzhou was not far behind the others. In mid-July, the Guangzhou municipal government passed the "Guangzhou Public Transport Industry's Gradually Promoting the Use of Liquefied Natural Gas Buses Work Program", requesting the gradual development of Guangzhou's buses based on LNG filling stations and other facilities and vehicle development plans. LNG replaces vehicle LPG.

“LNG for vehicles is cleaner and more environmentally friendly than LPG, and its economic efficiency is relatively high. LNG is an inevitable trend to replace LPG. We have started to deploy natural gas filling station business in Guangzhou to meet the development trend of the automotive fuel market.” Passenger car brand official said.

In addition to Guangzhou, Dongguan City also issued the “Implementation Opinions on Accelerating the Construction of Natural Gas Vehicle Refueling Stations in Our City to Further Promote the Popularization of LNG Vehicles”. According to the relevant person in charge of the Dongguan City Environmental Protection Bureau, by the end of 2013, Dongguan had to eliminate 22429 yellow-label vehicles, and all of these buses would be replaced by LNG buses.

In addition, the total number of LNG buses in Zhuhai City has reached 858, which accounts for “half of the country’s total number of public transport buses” and the gasification rate of buses in Guangdong is at the leading level.

In Tianjin, which is adjacent to Beijing, LNG buses have also developed rapidly. In 2013, Tianjin Binhai Bus Group will purchase 150 new energy buses for the opening of new lines and replacement of key line vehicles. According to relevant person in charge, so far, among the 21 bus lines in Tianjin Binhai Bus, the occupancy rate of CNG and LNG buses has reached 30%. At present, Binhai Bus Group owns 1,591 vehicles, including 375 LNG new energy buses and 20 CNG new energy buses. After the 150 environmental protection buses are put into use, it is expected to reduce pollutant emissions by nearly 11,000 tons per year.

In addition to the above-mentioned more typical cities, Wuhan, Guiyang, Qingdao and other cities are actively promoting the layout of LNG buses, with very good results.
