Galvanized steel pipe connection methods include threading and welding. Another common method is the grooving connection, which requires careful attention to detail during the process.

Grooving Connection

1. Cracking of Groove Welds

  • Flatten the inner wall weld ridge at the pressure groove area of the nozzle to reduce resistance during grooving.
  • Ensure the steel pipe and grooving equipment are aligned properly and level to prevent misalignment issues.
  • Adjust the grooving speed so that the forming time does not exceed the recommended duration. Apply even and gradual force throughout the process.

2. Fracture of Grooved Steel Pipe

  • Flatten the inner wall weld ridge on the nozzle's pressure groove area to reduce resistance and improve groove quality.
  • Align the steel pipe and grooving equipment correctly, ensuring both are level for optimal performance.
  • Control the grooving speed to ensure it stays within the specified limits and apply force evenly and slowly.
  • Check the width and model of the support roller and pressure roller in the grooving equipment. Ensure there is no bite caused by mismatched rollers.
  • Use a vernier caliper to verify that the groove dimensions meet the required specifications.

3. Requirements for Grooves Formed by Grooving Machine

  • The surface from the pipe end to the groove section should be smooth without any unevenness or rolling marks.
  • The center of the groove must be concentric with the pipe wall. The groove’s width and depth should meet the standards, and the clamp model should be verified as correct.
  • Apply a suitable lubricant to the rubber sealing ring and check for any damage. Avoid using oil-based lubricants, as they may affect the seal integrity.

Welded Connection

  • If the galvanized steel pipe ends are not straight after butt joint, causing an inclined cut, it is recommended to trim a small section before processing.
  • If the two pipes do not connect tightly after welding, resulting in uneven joint thickness or oval deformation due to internal or external factors, cutting and reprocessing is advised.
  • Blisters may appear at the nozzle after welding due to technical issues during the process. It is important to address these promptly.
  • A zinc tumor may form at the nozzle, causing welding difficulties and potential defects. For large zinc tumors or excessive numbers, a simple removal treatment should be performed before proceeding.

Threaded Connection

  • If the thread is randomly buckled, leading to poor contact and loosening, cut off the affected part and re-thread the installation.
  • If the steel pipe thread and the pipe hoop thread do not match, replace the pipe hoop or adjust the equipment and re-thread accordingly.
  • If the steel pipe threading results in missing threads, measure the wall thickness to ensure it meets the required standard for threaded connections.

Proper preparation, alignment, and attention to detail during each connection method are essential for ensuring the durability and reliability of galvanized steel pipe systems. Always follow manufacturer guidelines and use appropriate tools and techniques to achieve the best results.
