China Instrument Network Instrument Development Recently, the research team behind the "Key Technology Development and Industrialization of Ultra-Low Emission Monitoring Instruments for Coal-Contaminating Pollutants" has successfully developed a series of advanced monitoring instruments. These tools have been deployed in coal-fired power plants across China, addressing a critical domestic gap and breaking foreign technological and market monopolies.

As coal remains a fundamental energy source in China, the development of ultra-low emission monitoring technology is crucial for achieving cleaner coal utilization and ensuring national energy security. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's "Opinions on Accelerating the Development of Environmental Protection Equipment Manufacturing Industry" emphasizes the need to promote ultra-low emissions in coal-fired power plants and multi-pollutant control in non-electrical sectors such as steel, coking, non-ferrous metals, construction materials, and chemicals. It also highlights the importance of demonstrating synergistic control and VOC control technologies in key areas.
However, for many years, this type of technology was dominated by foreign companies due to a lack of breakthroughs in core technologies. Fortunately, the project team has made significant progress by overcoming technical challenges and developing a range of high-performance monitoring instruments that fill the domestic gap.
Initially, the instruments developed by the team had a short operational lifespan—only about two weeks—due to stability issues. To address this, the entire team conducted extensive research on instrument reliability. Through numerous lab tests, field trials, and literature reviews, they identified the root cause and resolved it using patented technology.
In addition, to quickly transform their research into practical applications, the team compared their self-developed instruments with imported ones in a coal-fired power plant. After three months of continuous online monitoring, the results showed that the key performance metrics of the domestically developed equipment were significantly better than those of similar foreign instruments. This achievement has greatly advanced China’s ultraviolet spectroscopy monitoring technology for ultra-low concentration pollutants.
Currently, over 300 ultra-low concentration monitoring instruments developed by the project have been implemented in nearly 100 coal-fired power plants. This effectively equips these plants with "super-low-emission" capabilities. With remote data transmission, the technical team can more efficiently guide the stable and effective operation of ultra-low emission systems.
