Homewood Acres FPD update

Dennis McGuire, Jr. visited the Homewood Acres Fire Department on Tuesday and shared a collection of photos along with some background details about the department's current status. **Notes:** The Homewood Acres Fire Department is still in the process of getting fully operational. They are currently in the middle of training, and they have 15 volunteers who are actively working to get everything up and running. One of their older engines, Engine 1932—a 1972 Ford-John Bean pumper with a 1,000-GPM pump and 750 gallons of water—has been sold to a man in Grant Park, Illinois. He owns a pawn shop in Flossmoor and plans to use the truck as mobile advertising. The vehicle will be picked up tomorrow morning (at 5:30 AM) and will remain in Grant Park. This rig had a long history, serving first with the East Joliet Fire Department, then Holbrook FPD, and finally Glenwood, Illinois. It’s worth noting that this engine has a gas-powered motor. The new Engine 1932 is a 1985 Ford-Pierce from Plainfield, Illinois. At this time, the department hasn’t decided whether it will be painted or left in its original white color. Another vehicle, a Ford from Country Club Hills, was scrapped a few months ago. It was replaced by a 1986 Mack-Ward 79 pumper from Burbank, Illinois, which was previously known as Engine 208. One of the photos Dennis sent shows all three vehicles lined up together, creating an interesting visual of the department’s fleet. These images give a glimpse into the ongoing development of the Homewood Acres Fire Protection District, showing both the past and the future of their equipment.
